Gardening Tip of the Month

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CRITTER?
The
gypsy moth larvae are up to 2 1/2 inches
long, hairy, blackish caterpillars with two
longitudinal rows of red and/or blue spots on
their backs. They are the most serious shade
tree pest in the United States and they have
been sighted in Rockford!
When their numbers are small they prefer
oak trees, if populations of Gypsy Moths are
large they can defoliate entire forests.
We have sprays both natural and chemical
to control the Gypsy Moth larvae. Call us or
the Winnebago County Extension office with
any questions.
